Born in Chile in 1972, Luis Araos-Gutierrez initially worked as a university music teacher. In 1990 he began his studies in singing and piano. He became a member of the Ibero-American Zarzuela and Operetta Company and the Compañía de la Música Antigua del Instituto de Mùsica in Santiago de Chile. Later he travels to Northern Germany for concerts. In 2003 the tenor became a member of the choir and ensemble of the Theater Lübeck, sings in Carmen and Spoletta in Tosca. Luis Araos-Gutierrez also studies Gedda singing technique. In 2005 he joined the Kieler Theaterchor, sang for the first time at the Eutiner Festspiele and was also booked as a soloist. In 2008, he gave guest performances in Tannhäuser at the Hamburg State Opera and in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Theater Lübeck. At the Kiel Opera he performs solo roles in Verdi's Lombarden and La Bohème and most recently in Ein Maskenball.

The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
