The Eutin Festival is on the verge of a historical caesura: for the first time since 1951 it will not present any performances on the lake stage in summer.
What a pity: The Eutin Festival has to cancel all performances of the 2020 season due to the Corona crisis. Learn more
Junggeun Choi was born in South Korea in 1989. After his first singing lessons at the age of 19, he began his Bachelor studies at the University of Hanyang in Seoul. In 2016 he moves to Germany and in 2018 he studies for his master's degree at the Musikhochschule Lübeck with Prof. Franz Josef Einhaus. In the same year he was awarded the Maritim Music Prize 2018 in Timmendorfer Strand, where he received the Eutiner Festspiele prize of honour.
As a soloist Junggeun Choi is engaged for leading roles: as Belcore in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore at his Alma Mater in Seoul, as Silvano in Un ballo in maschera at the Theater Kiel and as Junius and Tarquinius in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia. He gives one of the six judges in Korngold's Das Wunder der Heliane at the Theater Lübeck and the Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Allee Theater and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater, both in Hamburg.
Colourful entertainment, great emotions - this is the enormous emotional range promised by director Tobias Materna for the production of the musical "A Cage Full of Fools" at the Eutin Festival.
The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
