Born in Athens and raised in Rhodes, Angelos Samartzis studies singing and music theory at the Athenaeum Conservatory alongside law. He obtained his bachelor's degree in opera at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and a master's degree in singing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Master classes with Rajna Kabaiwanska, Franco Farina, Jane Henschel and Cheryl Studer complete his education.
Angelos Samartzis takes on many of the great roles of his profession, such as Hoffmann in Hoffmann's Stories, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Ismaele in Nabucco, Tony in West Side Story and Marquis von Chateauneuf in Zar and Zimmermann. He appears as a soloist at concerts and opera galas and plays with orchestras such as the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt, the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Castle Opera in Szczecin and the Polish State Philharmonic Orchestra Czestochowa.
In the summer of 2016 he will make his debut at the Wroclaw Opera at The Spanish Night with Carmen - Zarzuela Show, an event in front of 30000 spectators to celebrate the European Kulturhauptstadtstatus´ Wroclaw. In the 2016/2017 season he will be a member of the Nordhausen Theatre ensemble; he will also guest as Rodolfo in La Bohème at the new house of the Greek State Opera in Athens, at the Braunschweig State Theatre and at the Theater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. Since August 2017 he has been a permanent member of the Saarländisches Staatstheater.
Colourful entertainment, great emotions - this is the enormous emotional range promised by director Tobias Materna for the production of the musical "A Cage Full of Fools" at the Eutin Festival.
The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
