Stefan Heinrichs, born 1964 in the Allgäu region of Germany, studied musicology and chemistry in Stuttgart and Heidelberg. In 1990 he became Marco Arturo Marelli's assistant stage designer for productions in Bonn, Hamburg, Zurich, Essen, Salzburg and Vienna, including a collaboration with Harry Kupfer. From 1993 he collaborated with Wolfgang Gussmann on productions by Willy Decker, Andreas Homoki, Johannes Schaaf and Jürgen Flimm at major opera houses including Munich, Hamburg, Dresden, Geneva, Venice, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen and Tokyo. Stefan Heinrichs works as a freelance stage designer for opera productions in Vienna, Brussels, Oslo, Aix-en-Provence, Stuttgart and Kassel. Since 2001 he has been responsible for his own productions, for example at the Ludwigsburger Festspiele, in Brussels, Bremerhaven and Turin. Since 2008 Stefan Heinrichs has held a teaching position at the Antwerp Conservatory. He has worked with director Jennifer Toelstede for many years.

The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
