Arend Knoop had already announced his withdrawal from joint economic responsibility for the festival some time ago. He justified this with the necessary consideration for his health and the will to have now more time for the family. The former car dealer had already resigned his many years of active service as technical manager of the Festspiele before the start of the 2018 season.
In a joint statement, Director General Dominique Caron and Festspiele Managing Director Falk Herzog paid tribute to the high level of personal commitment with which Arend Knoop has worked for the Festspiele since 2011: "It would have been difficult to imagine its continued existence without his immense energy and permanent helpfulness. We are very indebted to Arend Knoop, and all the staff in the Opera Barn wish him all the best for the future. He will always be welcome at the Festival."
