Weber anniversary concert - kick-off for the 2020 season

The Eutin Festival starts its 70th season with a homage to Carl Maria von Weber on 20 June 2020. On the romantic lake stage in the Schlossgarten, the opening concert will feature melodies from works by the world-famous composer from Eutin.

With this programme, the Festspiele are celebrating a special anniversary in Weber's honour: 200 years ago, in September 1820, the successful composer once again visited his native town. Here the then 34-year-old was, in his own words, "received with great acclaim". In the Town Hall he gave a concert at which, as documented by his guest performance in Copenhagen a few days later, excerpts from his then unpublished opera "Der Freischütz" could be heard for the first time.

For the Eutin Festival, founded in 1951 on the 125th anniversary of Weber's death, it is a matter of the heart to pay tribute to his work and the Eutin connection. Hilary Griffiths, musical director classical music of the festival, arranges a programme full of treasures from Weber's rich oeuvre for soloists for the opening concert. Orchestra and choir.
