Philip Björkqvist grows up in Finland. There he began his studies, continued them at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover and graduated at the Stockholm Opera Academy. He was already cast for the Klassik Open Air with the NDR Philharmonie as Il Carceriere in Tosca and sang the Melisso in Alcina by Haydn at the Theater Osnabrück. With the Swedish orchestra Västerås Synfoniettan Philip Björkqvist appears in 2017 in the title role of Figaro's Wedding in a scenic version; in 2018 he gives Mars in the opera ballet Solen och Nordstjärnan (The Sun and the North Star) with the Vadstena Academies.
Philip Björkqvist is also interested in the song. He appears as a soloist in oratorios and gives recitals. Among the scholarships awarded to him are the scholarships of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and the Königliche Musikalischen Akademie in Sweden. He deepened his knowledge in master classes, for example with Brigitte Fassbänder, Brian Jauhiainen and Christian Immler.

The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
