After studying choral conducting, the native Muscovite obtained her diploma in opera singing with distinction at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. She makes her debut at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, at the Mariinski Theater St. Petersburg, in Helsinki, Tokyo and Lucerne with roles such as Sieglinde, Brünnhilde and the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos. She performs Isolde at the National Theatre in Zagreb, Prothoe in Schoeck's Penthesilea and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel at the Semperoper Dresden, Shostakovich's Katerina Ismailova and Carmen at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden. Her repertoire also includes roles such as Venus in Tannhäuser and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth.
In 2013 Milana Butaeva makes her debut as Carmen at the Eutin Festival, where she will be engaged as Azucena in Il Trovatore in 2014, Amneris in Aida in 2015 and Carmen again in 2016. Here she also sings her first Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus. In the 2017/18 season she will guest at the Semperoper in Dresden and in Halle and will sing the witch at the Staatsoper Hannover. For the 5th time she is appointed to the jury of the Maritim Singing Competition in Timmendorfer Strand.
Colourful entertainment, great emotions - this is the enormous emotional range promised by director Tobias Materna for the production of the musical "A Cage Full of Fools" at the Eutin Festival.
The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
