Jörg Brombacher, born in Lörrach, studied art with Franz Erhard Walther, Hermann Nitsch, Olaf Metzel and Joseph Kosuth at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg between 1985 and 1991. In 1989 he received a teaching position for sculpture at the Sydney College of Arts in Australia.

Since 1991 he has worked and lived as a freelance artist in Karlsruhe and in the southern Palatinate. He is co-initiator of the Kunstraum IWKA Karlsruhe, the Kampagne 3000, the Ateliers Hinterm Hauptbahnhof Karlsruhe and the Neue Kunstraum Karlsruhe in the contemporary art scene. In 1993 he received a scholarship from the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg. In 1997 he was awarded the "PP-Qualitätszeichen" prize in Basel for his art projects. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad, among others in Basel, Berlin, Darmstadt, Dortmund, Dresden, Essen, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Kiel, Linz, Luxembourg, Munich, Perth, Salzburg, Stuttgart, Sydney and Vienna. From 2002 to 2005 he worked as a stage designer and graphic artist at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg. In 2005/06, he took over the direction of the stage design at the Theater Halle 7 in Munich. 2008/09 Jörg Brombacher is stage designer and equipment manager at the Kammertheater Karlsruhe. From 2009 to 2017 he is technical director and equipment director of the Luisenburg Festspiele Wunsiedel.

His work as a stage designer includes engagements at the Theater Halle 7 in Munich, the August Everding Academy, the Prinzregententheater Munich, the Kammerspiele Karlsruhe, the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, the Theater Pforzheim and the Schlosstheater Celle, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, the Landestheater Niederbayern Landshut-Passau-Straubing, the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, the Neue Oper Wien, the Tiroler Volksschauspiele Telfs, the Théâtre d'Esch in Luxembourg and the Luisenburg Festival Wunsiedel.
