Romely Pfund studied piano and conducting with GMD Rudolf Neuhaus in her hometown Dresden. She completed her training with personalities such as Kurt Masur, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa and Gennadi Roshdestwenski. She has conducted many German orchestras, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Komische Oper Berlin Orchestra and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Orchestra. She has also worked with renowned soloists including Theo Adam, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Christian Tetzlaff, Natalia Gutmann and Sabine Meyer. From 1987 to 1996 Romely Pfund was chief conductor and artistic director of the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, from 1998 to 2009 general music director of the Bergische Symphoniker and then until 2013 opera director and musical director at the Landestheater Mecklenburg, where she was also awarded the state culture prize. She has been a lecturer at the Musikhochschule Lübeck since 2013. Since 2016 she has worked as a conductor and choir director at the Eutin Festival.

The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
