Hilko Engberts has been musically engaged since childhood. At the age of nine he received his first violin lessons, followed by training in piano and music theory. With the choir of the Ubbo-Emmius-Gymnasium Leer, he wins first prize at the Lower Saxony Choir Competition in Bad Pyrmont in 2017, with forwarding to the German Choir Competition in Freiburg. Since 2014 he has been a member of the Landesjugendchor Niedersachsen under the direction of Prof. Jörg Straube.
There he receives his vocal training from Albrecht Pöhl. Since 2016 the baritone has been studying in Birgit Calm's singing class at the Musikhochschule Lübeck. As a soloist he can be heard in Israel in Egypt and Messiah von Händel, the St. Matthew Passion by Bach and various Passions by Heinrich Schütz. Hilko Engberts is also active as a vocal coach with various choirs.
Colourful entertainment, great emotions - this is the enormous emotional range promised by director Tobias Materna for the production of the musical "A Cage Full of Fools" at the Eutin Festival.
The Korean baritone Hyunkyum Kim won the Eutin Festival prize of honour. Hilary Griffiths, Artistic Director Classical Music at the Festival, congratulated the 28-year-old singer on this success in the finale of the Maritim Music Prize.
