The musical ensemble of the Eutiner Festspiele started the countdown for the 69th season with a date on the lake stage.
"The stage here is really big, really beautiful in the middle of the green", amazed many who will perform for the first time in Eutin. "Première Fever" is one of the many successful titles from Cole Porter's musical "Kiss me, Kate", and it aptly describes the current mood in the opera barn: it sounds and swings in every room. The rehearsals for the musical "Kiss me, Kate" began here this week.
Director Hardy Rudolz tuned the international singing and dancing team to his concept: "Cole Porter's play is a play full of wit with great music. The audience should be entertained, and I want all of you on stage to come across well with your skills."
The 69th festival season will open on 26 June with the public dress rehearsal of "Kiss me, Kate". Director Hardy Rudolz has engaged two internationally successful musical stars for the two leading roles in the musical version of Shakespeare's comedy "Der Widerspenstigen Zähmung": Patricia Hodell and Peter Bording embody the divorced couple, who once again appear on stage together as Katharina and Petruchio. But behind the scenes, Lilli and Fred develop their very own version of their private war of roses, which doesn't stop at the Shakespeare play either...
Patricia Hodell is a regular starring lady. Since 1997 she has appeared in 30 major musical productions, from "Cabaret" in Osnabrück to "Das Mädchen Rosemarie" in Düsseldorf, "Der Besuch der alten Dame" in Vienna, "Mamma Mia" in Thun CH & Stuttgart to "Ich war noch niemals in New York" in Berlin, to name but a few. For the Swiss-born Patricia Hodell, her first appearance in the Eutiner Schlossgarten also means her debut in the role of Lilli/Katharina: "The character of an unconventional woman who doesn't let the men take the butter from her bread is always attractive. The fact that, as a Swiss, I can now perform in Holstein Switzerland makes this commitment doubly interesting for me".
Your partner on the Eutin lake stage will be Peter Bording. The lyrical baritone from the Netherlands is also an established figure in European music theatre. He has already played the role of Fred/Petruchio at the Komische Oper Berlin and at the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen. For Hardy Rudolz one thing is certain: "With Patricia Hodell and Peter Bording, the Eutin Festival has found an ideal cast for this controversial couple. But also the other soloists are in no way inferior to the two when it comes to stage art. Thomas Schirano, who became the darling of the audience here in 2018 as father Doolittle in My Fair Lady, will certainly also cause a sensation as a thug who suddenly has to speak Shakespeare texts. And with the dance interludes, which are indispensable for every musical, all viewers can once again look forward to the imaginative choreographies of Vanni Viscusi."
The proven stage team for the musical production of the Eutin Festival in 2019 will again include Romely Pfund as conductor and choir director, Martina Feldmann (costume designer), Marlene Girolla-Krause (make-up artist) and Christian Klingenberg (sound). In the orchestra pit the Kammerphilharmonie Lübeck will once again provide the musical accompaniment. Jörg Brombacher (stage design) and Rolf Essers (lighting design) are new members.
The frame was perfect at the premiere. Not only the oversized golden scenery frame on Eutin's green hill stands for it. Even if, no: just because the shreds flew here in the evening idyll, there was a lot of applause in the happy end for Hardy Rudolz's production of Cole Porter's "Kiss Me, Kate".
